Hometown Learning Centers®
Hometown Learning Centers® (HLC) is pleased to announce that it will award a $1,000 scholarship to at least one student in the Winchester area each year. The scholarship is based on a calendar year cycle, and will be awarded to that HLC test prep (SAT) customer who achieves the best improvement in test performance, scores, percentile ranking, and effort. The first scholarship will be presented at the conclusion of the 2017/2018 school year.
Key eligibility requirements and performance measurements are available at Hometown Learning Centers®, 2172 S. Pleasant Valley Rd, Winchester VA 22601.
Most colleges & universities require, and nearly all encourage, the submission of an applicant’s scores for either the SAT or the ACT college readiness standardized test. These institutions use these scores, together with many other requirements, to assist them in their decision to accept or to reject an applicant’s request for admission.
The SAT is by far the more popular testing format for students living in states along the eastern seaboard, and Virginia is no exception. HLC has SAT courses in math, reading/writing, and test taking strategies. Courses are offered for two different levels of baseline achievement, as measured by HLC practice tests or past official SAT scores. For example, a student who previously achieved a percentile ranking between 25% and 50%, is probably best suited for our Monday/Wednesday course. A student who achieved a percentile ranking between 51% and 75% would be better served in our Tuesday/Thursday course. Students at either end of this spectrum are better served by HLC’s private SAT instruction.
HLC is committed to helping high school students prepare for college. Course variety, flexible schedules and now our scholarship program is further evidence of our sincere desire to help these students ready themselves for promising college careers.
